Take a look at this 1971 Chevy Camaro Restomod with Big Block & Blower – The Ultimate Street Cruiser with 800+ HP!
f you’re a fan of old-school muscle with modern attitude, this 1971 Chevrolet Camaro Restomod will blow you away—literally. With a 496ci big block engine, a massive 671 blower, and nearly 812 horsepower, this Camaro isn’t just built to turn heads—it’s made to drive hard, look beautiful, and keep a smile plastered on your face every mile.
A Camaro Born From Passion and Coincidence
For Jeff, the owner of this stunning ride, Camaros have been part of life since high school. After owning 68 cars over the years, he stumbled upon this second-gen Camaro online in 2017. Originally built in Lake Elsinore, California, the car made its way to Arizona, then to North Carolina, and eventually back to Southern California—within 20 miles of where it was originally built. In a twist of fate, Jeff even ran into the original builder at a local car show.
Engineered for the Street, Built for Performance
What started with a tired 396ci truck engine quickly transformed into something extraordinary. Jeff installed a 496ci big block from TriStar Motors, initially pushing 630 hp without a blower. But a hood clearance issue inspired a bold choice: cut the hood and add a supercharger. The result? A 671 blower running 4 psi, tuned for street reliability with 10:1 compression and a mild cam setup—still making over 812 hp at the crank.
“We didn’t set out to build a blower car… but once the hood was getting cut, it was like—why not?” – Jeff
Drivetrain & Chassis Upgrades
To handle that power, the Camaro features:
-
Hydraulic dual-disc clutch by Mazier
-
Ford 9-inch rear end with 3.50 gears
-
Custom coilovers up front, leaf springs in rear
-
Bear brakes front and rear
-
Custom 3-piece Forged Union wheels (18×285 rear)
Despite its outrageous power, Jeff wanted something streetable—a cruiser he could take from San Diego to Huntington Beach or just show off on a Saturday cruise.
Details Matter: Paint, Interior, and Exhaust
-
Paint: 2013 Volvo United Gray Metallic
-
Wheels: 1-of-13 forged custom wheels by a defunct boutique company
-
Interior: Original door panels with restored OEM-style seats, Autometer retro gauges, and a nostalgic T-handle shifter
-
Exhaust: One-piece custom 3″ tubing with Flowmaster 2-chamber mufflers—loud enough to growl, quiet enough to hear the blower whine
Built to Drive, Not Just Show
Jeff doesn’t baby this car. In under a year, he’s already logged nearly 3,000 miles, proving that this Camaro isn’t a trailer queen—it’s a true street machine. Even with just 285s on the rear, he handles the power with grace, avoiding unnecessary burnouts and keeping things under control at three-quarter throttle.
“People expect burnouts with a blower sticking out the hood, but I’d rather spool it up, let them hear the whine, and roll out clean.”
