From the jump, racers knew they were in for a challenge. The track surface had been scraped clean of rubber, leaving it as slick and unpredictable as no prep gets. Last year’s event saw multiple crashes, and this year wasn’t looking much better.

Legendary race flagger Limpy was on the light, ensuring it was all legit, but traction was minimal, making the first few passes a nail-biting experience for racers and spectators alike.

First Round: Wheelies, Wrecks & Wild Rides

The action kicked off with a bang. Small-tire monsters lit up the strip with wild launches and sideways saves:

  • A 2JZ-swapped Honda S2000 shocked fans with big performance.

  • Billy “The Kid” Hoskinson’s twin-turbo Nova laid down serious power but got squirrely late in the run.

  • A Ford Courier with an 88/103 turbo turned heads with consistent passes.

  • A pickup truck climbed the wall and caught fire, erupting in flames—but the driver exited safely.

Despite the chaos, most drivers made it through the round, and the energy in the pits only grew stronger as round two approached.

Round Two: Darkness Falls, Racing Heats Up

With cooler temps and more rubber building on the track, the surface began to come around—slightly. Still slick, but just enough grip to encourage racers to start turning things up:

  • Brandon Mor and his clean S10 delivered a flawless, fast pass.

  • Jasper’s 540ci twin-94mm turbo Fox Body impressed with smooth power delivery and straight-line execution.

  • A Nova left hardest all night but crossed the centerline, ending his night despite the strong launch.

Multiple racers reported they’d been leaving in second gear and avoiding first altogether to manage traction. Now, they felt ready to add power and go deeper into the rounds.

Round Three: Drama Builds, and Then It Breaks

The third round featured more power, more intensity—and ultimately, the breaking point of the event:

  • The carbon Fox advanced, but suffered what appeared to be a broken transmission or rear end.

  • Brandon Mor took another win, but body panels were flying as his competition’s car came apart on the big end.

  • Just as the semifinals were lining up, disaster struck.

The Crash That Ended the Event

A full-size truck, during a high-speed pass, lost control, flipped over five times, slammed into the Jersey barrier, and erupted into flames.

Miraculously, the driver exited the vehicle on his own, but was clearly in shock. The wall was severely damaged, and event officials had no choice but to cancel the remainder of the race.

With only a few racers left in the small-tire class—including fan-favorites like Billy the Kid and Brandon Mor—the purse was split, and the racing came to an early end.

Final Thoughts: No Prep at Its Rawest

The North vs South No Prep event at Immokalee Raceway was a powerful reminder of both the thrill and danger of this grassroots style of racing. From fire-breathing twin-turbo builds to backyard-built trucks, the heart and soul of drag racing was on full display.

Despite the rough ending, the event showcased incredible talent, wild matchups, and the importance of safety in this unforgiving sport. No Prep isn’t for the faint of heart—and this event proved it in every way.
