Street Outlaws legend Daddy Dave recently took his skills and his iconic car “Goliath” overseas to Brazil, but what was supposed to be a high-profile exhibition and training session quickly turned into a mechanical disaster. The trip, part of a deal with Brazilian driver Israel, was meant to give the new owner hands-on lessons in running a high-horsepower machine at a major sold-out event at V Park.
A Mission to Teach and Inspire in Brazil
Several months earlier, Daddy Dave sold Goliath to Israel, promising to fly over and personally show him how to operate it safely and effectively. With crew members Johnny, Wheeler, and Marquel in tow, Dave planned to offer a crash course in both driving and between-rounds maintenance. The goal was clear—ensure Israel could handle the car without risking injury, while also soaking in Brazil’s passionate racing culture.
A Peek into Brazil’s Racing Scene
Before hitting the track, the crew toured the pits, admiring the clean, meticulously maintained cars despite the scarcity of performance parts in Brazil. From small-block muscle builds to high-injector turbo setups and sequential transmissions, Dave was impressed by the ingenuity of local racers.
Safety Over Speed
With V Park packed to capacity for the weekend’s big event, the focus during testing was safety. Dave explained that Israel was not yet ready for the car’s full power, so they dialed in a stiff, radial-style suspension setup to handle the sticky track and reduce the risk of violent tire shake. The crew also serviced the engine, adjusted the valves, and fine-tuned shocks to ensure a smooth “A-to-B” pass rather than an all-out run.
Disaster Strikes
However, during testing, the worst-case scenario unfolded. Mid-run, the ProCharger supercharger “ate itself,” sending internal debris back through the engine. This kind of failure can cause catastrophic damage, and while the drive shaft and air-fuel readings didn’t show complete destruction, the damage was still significant enough to sideline the car.
The Aftermath and Repairs
Dave admitted this was his biggest fear—breaking the car while in Brazil. Fortunately, he had shipped a spare blower along with the car, and local intake parts were available. With John and the crew on the case, repairs began immediately, but the setback left Dave visibly frustrated.
