Stepping down from big tires to small tires is not as easy as it sounds, and there is a huge number of reasons that make this thing difficult so this is why racers tend to keep their cars as is instead of switching back and forth depending on the competition.
If you remember, during last season of Street Outlaws, the 405 crew had a bunch of cars coming in on small tires to race so Ryan Martin, Big Chief and Daddy Dave decided to put their cars on small tires in order to accustom the guest and give them a fair race.
However, Big Chief kinda changed his mind and kept his big tires on, while Daddy Dave and Ryan Martin went thru the whole process of turning down power, re-testing and changing the entire setup.
In fact, you can even say that the Fireball Camaro never truly recovered throughout the season from this switch, and Ryan Martin had to spend a huge amount of time and money testing and re-testing to get it back in line.
