Back in 1969, Ford realized that they need a subcompact vehicle to fight off all those imports that were selling like crazy, like the famous Volkswagen Beetle, or the Japanese attackers manufactured in Honda, Datsun, and Toyota, so they decided to launch the Ford Maverick.

It never had an easy battle since aside from the imports this vehicle whose lifespan ranged from 1969 to 1977, had to also fend off the already established Chevrolet Nova and the Dodge Dart.

With sales numbers getting close to 600,000 in the first year of production (579,000 to be exact) the Maverick was a great success and got very close to the record that was set by the Mustang of 619,000 units produced in the first year.

Now that we have learned something about the history of this car, let’s get back to the video at hand, in which a 1972 Ford Maverick, murders a 1971 Chevy Nova in a drag race, check it out.
